Dahlia Tuber Sale Details

What to know before you buy:

  • We will open our Dahlia Tuber Sale on March 29th at 9:00am PST. Our site will be open for previewing until March 28th at 9:00am PST when the site will be password protected while we load inventory. When we open the Sale, the password will no longer be needed, and you can shop freely. When open for preview, all items will be listed as SOLD OUT.

We expect some of our highly sought after varieties will sell out quickly; we are a small family farm, and some stock is very limited. Please keep this in mind, as some items may sell out before you check out. Carting an item does not guarantee that it will not be sold out before you purchase. Purchase is only confirmed once payment is received and you receive a confirmation notice.

  • While we know that 87% of dahlias carry at least one virus according to the American Dahlia Society (ADS), we follow a strict sanitization protocol here to do our part at maintaining a healthy stock.

We purchase our foundational stock from reputable small growers. If at any point in our growing season we see visual signs of virus, we cull. “When in doubt, throw it out.” Weekly inspections keep us on top of quick culling.

All equipment is sanitized between every plant during bloom harvests and during dig and divide. This is a laborious task, but it is one we are dedicated to practice.

We maintain a virus-spreading pest free environment to the best of our ability with the use of beneficial insects, including nematodes and monthly releases of ladybugs, predatory mites, and green lacewings. We also monitor our field to be ahead of any infestation.

We follow organic practices, and we only use OMRI-certified products.

  • Some of our cultivars are hard to find, and since we are a small farm, we have limited stock. Therefore, we will follow industry practice at limiting some cultivars to a tuber limit per household. Purchases beyond the stated allowable limit will be canceled and refunded.

  • We will send either a single tuber OR a split clump which has a couple tubers.

Many of our rare varieties were propagated by cuttings. These formed smaller tuber clumps or pot tubers. Due to the tuber smaller size, we split the clumps in to pieces with multiple tubers joined together. Rest assured that we only send split clumps with viable eyes. Here at the farm, these are what we plant and have found split clumps to be just as rigorous as traditional tubers, if not more so.

  • All tuber purchases must be made through our website platform. We accept all major credit cards and ApplePay.

  • Some shoppers may place multiple orders. We will gladly refund extra shipping charges from additional orders minus a one-time $5 fee to cover costs AS LONG AS you email us at RatherRooted@gmail.com with all order numbers you wish to combine. This must happen within 24 hours to ensure we receive your request before any shipment processing begins.

  • All orders will have a $15 flat fee for shipping and handling. We will use UPS or USPS for shipping.

We will ship the beginning of April and will ship according to growing zone.

If you live in an area with below freezing temperatures through April, we urge you to purchase the Cold Weather Shipping Add-on. We are not responsible for loss due to weather.

If you need us to hold your package and ship later than the first two weeks of April, email us promptly after purchase at RatherRooted@gmail.com to see what we can do.

We unfortunately cannot ship internationally at this time.

  • Hi, Neighbor! Thank you for the local support.

When checking out, select the Local Pick Up option in the Shipping drop down menu.

Local Pick Up will be Thursday, April 3rd at the SLO Flower Collective Market at the Dallidet Adobe Gardens in SLO. If this does not work for you, we can arrange a farm pick-up in AG if you email RatherRooted@gmail.com.

All orders MUST be picked up by April 18th, 2025.

  • Refunds will be issued at our discretion for any stock failures. We do not offer substitutions unfortunately at this time.

We do not allow cancellations or changes after an order is placed.

  • We want you to be happy with your purchase with us. We are proud of our work here. If for any reason you are not satisfied, please reach out to us and give us the opportunity to make things right.

We guarantee that what we send you will be true to variety.

We also guarantee that our tubers will have at least one viable eye for sprouting and a healthy neck and body. Please inspect your tubers upon arrival. You have 3 calendar days to let us know of any issues with your received tubers by emailing us at RatherRooted@gmail.com along with photos.

We are not responsible for tuber loss as dahlia tubers are fragile and need correct handling and care. We are not responsible for loss due to storage, weather, pests, planting practices, or negligence.
